How to log in for the first time

As your account has moved from Barclays Direct, we’ve put together some short videos to show you how to get started with Barclays Online Banking.

Basic log-in:

To see transactions, download statements and make payments to existing payees, you’ll just need your passcode and memorable word:


Log in with PINsentry:

To make changes to your account, including setting up a new payee, you’ll need to log in using a PINsentry card reader:


When you’re logging in, you can ignore any reference to debit cards, cash cards or Barclays Mobile Banking as you don’t need these to log in.

A reminder of what everything is

For basic log-in:

Online Banking passcode:

This is the 5-digit number we sent you in the post when your account was moved to Barclays.

Memorable word:

If you haven’t done this already, you’ll be asked to choose a word the first time you log in.

Online Banking membership number:

We sent you this 12-digit number in the post, just before your account moved across.


For log-in with PINsentry:

Authentication card:

If you have a chip-enabled authentication card, you can use the 16-digit number on the front to log in. If you don’t have one and think that you need one, please call us on

This is the hand held card reader that we sent to you if you have an authentication card.

Card PIN:

This is the 4-digit PIN that we sent you to use with your authentication card, if you have one.
