Agriculture case studies
We support our customers in a variety of ways, providing practical solutions and assistance to help them run successful farming businesses.
The case studies below highlight our recent support.
Lower Treverward Farm
John Phillips definitely has a head for business and a passion for farming after purchasing Lower Treverward Farm, near Clun, aged just 27. The investment, supported by Barclays, covers 165 acres and supports over 1,000 ewes, 220 ewe lambs and 1,650 lambs.
John Phillips, said, “I was previously renting land but have always dreamed of owning my own farm. When Lower Treverward became available I went to look never thinking that I would be able to raise the finance to actually purchase the farm. Investing into the farm in the current financial climate was a major financial commitment but waking up every morning on your own land makes it all worthwhile.”
Kate Evans, Barclays Agricultural Manager, said, “This is a great example of someone using personal experience and passion for the industry to spot a business opportunity. Barclays research identifies the significant role ‘young entrepreneurs’ play in the economy and as champions of local business, Barclays is committed to supporting such propositions.
“By using our knowledge and experience within the agricultural sector, Barclays has been delighted to support John and wishes the business every success for the future. We need to encourage more young farmers into the industry and John is a great example to others of how acquiring the right skills and knowledge can prepare you for a future in farming.”
