Good news: Online Banking is getting better

Online banking

You said...we did

You've asked us to make it easier for you to log in to Online Banking. We've listened to what you've been saying and we are bringing in some changes to our log-in process.

What will this mean to me?

  • A simpler log-in process
  • More log-in options so you can pick the one that suits you best

Customers with PINsentry card readers:

You said you didn’t always want to carry your PINsentry card reader...

You will be able to set up a memorable word and passcode – by customising your Online Banking – to gain access to many services without your card reader.

You’ll be able to:

– See your balances

– Transfer money between your Barclays accounts

– Make payments to people and companies you have paid before through Online Banking

– Make first-time payments to new payees if they appear on our pre-approved list 1

How do I set up a passcode and memorable word?

You can set up a passcode and memorable word when you notice our new log-in screen by following the four steps listed below.

Step 1: Log in using your PINsentry.
Step 2: Go to the 'Customise my site' page in the right-hand menu.
Step 3: Select 'Set up my 5-digit passcode and memorable word'.
Step 4: Enter your new details and save.

Once you complete the steps above, you will be able to use either PINsentry or your passcode and memorable word to log in to Online Banking and save your preferred log-in screen. If you change your mind, you will always be able to select the alternative log-in screen.

When is this happening?

As our changes are being phased in not all of our customers will see the changes at the same time.

The new log-in screen will be introduced soon.

I use a passcode and memorable word to log in. How am I affected?

There is no change and therefore you do not have to take any action. If you would like to order a PINsentry card reader, our screens will help you do this.

Using a passcode and memorable word is secure and lets you see balances and transactions, transfer money between your Barclays accounts and make new payments to companies 1 and to people you have paid before through Online Banking.

Do I have to set up a passcode and memorable word?

No. If you have a PINsentry, setting up a passcode and memorable word is optional. If you want to (or need to use the full range of Online Banking services) you can continue to use PINsentry every time you log in.

I sometimes use the Basic Access service. How am I affected?

We wrote to you recently to advise you that we would be changing your service to give you more features. As our changes are being phased in, not all of our customers will see the changes at the same time. When you notice that the log-in screen has changed, the Basic Access link will no longer be available to you. It is at this time that you will have to log in with your PINsentry and visit the 'Customise my site' page to set up a new passcode and memorable word using the steps above.

Important information

1. The pre-approved list contains banking details of some of the UK's most popular companies. Once you enter a company's name on the page, our systems will search for its banking details to ensure your payment reaches the correct destination. If the payee does not feature on the list, we will ask you to use your PINsentry to make your payment; our Online Banking screens will guide you through this process.
