Introducing PINsentry for Online Banking

PINsentry card reader

Extra protection when you bank online

Today's fraudsters are using ever more sophisticated methods to try to get your account details and transfer money out of your accounts, which is why we've developed PINsentry.

Barclays Online Banking has always provided a high level of protection but PINsentry now provides an additional level of security when paying someone new for the first time.

PINsentry increases the level of protection when you log-in to Online Banking. It's quick and easy to use and is a major advance in online security to ensure your log-in details are as secure as possible.

The PINsentry card reader is a small hand-held device you insert your Barclays Bank debit or authentication card into. It works with your card and PIN to generate unique, one-time eight-digit codes for use in Online Banking.

Once you've registered for PINsentry you'll need to use your card reader to:

  • Log in to Online Banking
  • When you need to set up a payment to someone new for the first time and where you haven't previously saved their details

At each stage, our Online Banking pages will give you screen-by-screen instructions.

If you only need to see your balance and view payment information, you can do this online using Instant Access without needing your card reader.
