Secure Online Banking
Your security is our highest priority and we use several systems to protect your accounts.
1. Our fraud team
Contact us immediately if you think you are or may be a victim of fraud on your Barclays cards or accounts. The number you should call varies according to the type of fraud involved.
If you've received a suspicious email that claims to be from us, please forward it to internetsecurity@barclays.co.uk and then delete it.
2. Log-in and PINsentry
We operate extremely sophisticated levels of security to protect your Online Banking log-in. The PINsentry card reader adds an extra level of protection for sensitive transactions such as setting up a standing order or making a payment to a person or company for the first time. If you haven't registered for PINsentry you won't be able to carry out these transactions in Online Banking.
3. Online Banking Guarantee
If you're an Online Banking customer, you're automatically protected by our Online Banking Guarantee. This means that, if you fall victim to internet fraud on your Barclays bank account, we'll cover your loss – no matter how much money is taken from your account – as long as you've used Online Banking correctly.
4. Free internet security software
As an Online Banking customer you can order internet security software from us free of charge. Kaspersky protects your computer from criminals trying to access your accounts electronically.
5. Our system security
Data encryption: Our Online Banking service is hosted on a secure encrypted server. This means that any information you send us is encoded for your protection.
Timed log out: Online Banking logs you out if you don't use the service for 10 minutes. This gives you added protection if you forget to log yourself out.
Deactivation of your log-in details: We'll automatically disable your access to Online Banking if incorrect attempts are made to log in using your details. This is to stop fraudsters making repeated attempts to get into your accounts.
6. Spending abroad
Using your debit card abroad is convenient but it’s best to let us know when and where you’re going to help us keep track of any suspicious transactions.
In Online Banking, you can complete the form by going to Account services in the top blue menu bar and selecting the ‘debit card abroad’ link.
7. Our guide on how you can help
In addition to benefiting from the security we provide, you can do your bit to protect yourself from fraud.
