What you need with PINsentry
So what do you need to get started with PINsentry and Barclays Online Banking?
Just a Barclays Bank card, a membership number and a card reader.
A Barclays Bank card
- Your current debit card can be used with PINsentry. If you do not have a debit card we'll send you an authentication card to use. You'll also need to know the PIN for your card
A PINsentry card reader
- A PINsentry card reader is a small, easy-to-use hand-held device. We'll send one to you when you register to use PINsentry. The PINsentry card reader
Your 12-digit Online Banking membership number
- This is the membership number you already use for Online Banking, starting 2010 or 2020. If you're not yet an Online Banking member, we'll give you your membership number when you register. Find out what to do if you've forgotten your membership details
Using PINsentry is easy, just follow the on-screen instructions each time you log in to Online Banking.
What you also need to know…
- Before you use your card reader for the first time, take our tour. Tour PINsentry
- If you enter your card PIN incorrectly three times into the card reader, your PIN will lock and you won't be able to use your card. Find out how to unlock your PIN
- Your card reader is battery powered and does not need to be plugged in. The batteries should last between five and seven years. Audio card reader batteries will last two to three years
- Your card reader will time out and turn off after 90 seconds of inactivity. To reactivate the card reader, remove and reinsert your bank card
- The card reader does not need to be connected to your computer. It works independently based on your card and the information you enter into it
- The card reader is built to APACS (Association for Payment Clearing Services) standards and therefore you can also use card readers supplied by other UK banks
