Compare home insurance cover
To compare home insurance cover, make sure you look at the policy for details of what is covered before you buy.
A like-for-like home insurance comparison is the only way to accurately compare benefits and premiums. The cheapest quote might not give you adequate cover.
You'll need to check what's included in the buildings cover, eg. windows, roof, garage. You might need to have outside buildings covered. Make sure they're included in the policy when you compare home insurance cover. You'll also want to see what conditions you're covered for, eg. fire, flood, storm. When you compare house insurance, check too if there are any guarantees on repairs.
Should the worst happen and you need home repairs, some companies may offer a guarantee on work carried out by approved trades people. And see if you have the option of any additional cover - Home Emergency or Legal Expenses cover for example. Finally, take a look at the voluntary excess on the policy (the amount you pay towards any claim).
To accurately compare home insurance, you should also look at the excess. The higher the excess, the lower the premium, but the more you will have to pay out, should you need to make a claim.
