Getting a house insurance quote
A home insurance quote should cover the contents of your home against theft, accidental damage or loss in a fire and potentially other risks.
It could also refer to buildings insurance, which protects the fabric of your building. To get a home insurance quote, you'll need several bits of information. This list may vary between each insurance provider, but as a general guide, you'll be asked a number of fairly standard questions. You'll have to confirm your status, ie. if you are the homeowner and if the property is your main residence.
You will be asked to provide details about the property: for example, how old it is and the number of bedrooms. You may then need to give an estimate of the value of the contents you intend to insure. This can be a surprisingly difficult question to answer.
It could be a good idea to walk around your home and just make a rough estimate against what is in each room. You may also be asked about any existing policy details, and previous claims history, if any. Insurers also want to know whether you have any security features at your home. If you have, this may reduce your home insurance quote.
You may reduce your premium by increasing your excess, which is the amount you pay towards any claim. Some companies offer home insurance quotes online, or by phone. At Barclays we do both, and we can email your home insurance quotes direct to your inbox. We also offer the ability to tailor quotes too.
You may reduce your Barclays premium by increasing your voluntary excess.
