Are accidents covered?
Yes. As well as cover for illness or disease which is not pre-existing, our Hospital Cash Plan will cover you if your accident results in hospital treatment.

Are out-patient day visits covered?
Yes. As well as in-patient hospital stays, our Hospital Cash Plan will also cover you for out-patient visits, up to a maximum of six visits a year as long as they are scheduled visits.

My partner does not live with me, but can I cover him/her under my policy?
No, but he/she can take out plan in his/her own right.

Do children receive the same benefits as adults?
Benefits for children are 50% of those quoted for adults.

If I have to stay in hosipital while on holiday abroad will the plan pay benefits to me?
No, benefits are only payable for stays in and scheduled out-patient visits to UK hospitals.

Do the rates go up as I get older?
No.

To whom are the benefits of the plan paid?
All the benefits are paid to the insured person ie the person whose injury leads to the claim. If they are children, the benefits are paid to the policyholder. If the injured person dies, the benefits are paid to the insured person's legal representative or executor. Inheritance tax may be payable in the event of a claim being paid.

When does my cover begin?
You are covered straight away for accidents and after 30 days from the start of the policy for illnesses.

Is the Hospital Cash Plan the same as life insurance?
No. The Barclays Hospital Cash Plan covers you for accidents, illness or disease that requires treatment in a hospital.

There are some things our Hospital Cash Plan doesn't cover so we won't make a benefit payment in the following circumstances: See the policy document for full details.

  • No benefit is payable for any out-patient or in-patient treatment, or as the direct result of a visit to your doctor, in the 30 days immediately following the start of the policy, unless due to an accident
  • The maximum amount payable under this policy in respect of an insured person is £9,300 for each period of hospitalisation as an in-patient including the recuperation benefit
  • If you go back into hospital within 180 days of coming out, we will treat the hospitalisation as if it were part of the original claim and pay the original benefits for up to 183 days (which will include the period for which benefits were paid for the original claim)
  • Cover for you will stop on the premium due date following your 65th birthday

No benefit will be payable:

  • Due to any pre-existing medical condition
  • For any out-patient or in-patient treatment or as the direct result of a visit to your doctor in the waiting period, unless due to an accident
  • If you are in hospital due to the effects of alcohol
  • If the accident occurs whiledriving a vehicle and your blood/urine alcohol level is above the legal limit stated in the laws of the country where the accident occurs
  • Due to pregnancy, childbirth, infertility, termination or associated complications
  • Due to any sexually transmitted disease
