Is motorcycling covered?
Yes, our Personal Accident Plan covers you if you're involved in an accident that causes broken bones, dislocations, serious burns, permanent injury or death while riding a motorbike. However, all benefits paid as a result of a motorbike accident are halved.

Are skiing accidents covered?
Yes, unless you are training or competing professionally.

Is riding a jet ski covered?
Yes.

Do my children have to live with me for me to cover for them under my policy?
No.

Do children receive the same benefits as adults?
Children's benefits for permanent disabilities are 15% of those quoted for adults. Children are not covered for temporary disabilities.

Fatal accident cover for children is £5,000 for Gold cover and £7,500 for Platinum cover.

Do the rates go up as I get older?
No.

To whom are the benefits of the plan paid?
All the benefits are paid to the insured person, ie the person whose injury leads to the claim. If they are children, the benefits are paid to the policyholder. If the injured person dies, the benefits are paid to the insured person's legal representative or executor. Inheritance tax may be payable in the event of a claim being paid.

When does my cover begin?
Once processed, your cover will be effective immediately.

Is the Personal Accident Plan an income replacement policy?
No. The Barclays Personal Accident Plan provides a lump sum cash benefit if you are involved in an accident resulting in serious injuries or accidental death.

There are some things our Personal Accident Plan 5 doesn't cover so we won't pay any benefit for injury or loss in the following circumstances:

  • If it results in a diagnosis of fibromyalgia, myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME), chronic fatigue syndrome, post-traumatic stress disorder or any mental or nervous disorder
  • If it results from sickness or disease
  • If the accident occurs whilst you are driving a vehicle and your blood/urine alcohol level is above the legal limit stated in the laws of the country where the accident occurs
  • If your injuries are intentionally self-inflicted
  • If you commit or attempt to commit suicide
  • For any fracture where osteoporosis or pathological fracture had been diagnosed and made known to you before the effective date
  • If the accident occurs in a country where a state of war exists (declared or not) if the accident was the direct consequence of the war
  • While you're flying, unless you are a fare-paying passenger
  • If you are under the influence of one or more drugs (other than those prescribed by a registered medical practitioner – but not those used for the treatment of drug addiction)
  • If you deliberately or recklessly expose yourself to danger
  • While you're committing or attempting to commit a crime
