Health insurance options
A health insurance plan is health cover for you as an individual - or for your family and your dependants.
A health insurance plan may provide you with a wider choice of healthcare solutions at times of illness or injury and may also provide financial assistance that may enable you to spend your energy dealing with your illness or injury, instead of worrying about money.
There are various types of health insurance plans available to you. Private Medical Insurance (or PMI as it is often called) may cover you for tests and X-rays, may pay for access to specialist consultants and may provide a payout should you need to have prolonged treatment. Accident cover is a health insurance plan that covers you against accident or injury. It may relieve the financial burden of being unable to work, and may cover the cost of adaptations to your home or car if you needed them. A hospital cash plan may help to cover the expenses involved while you stay in hospital, up to a specified time limit.
There are also specialist policies available. For example, some plans offer individual cover for women, providing assistance should they be diagnosed with a female-specific cancer.
