Barclays Pingit Research: 100 days of a new way to pay
Barclays Pingit 1 is changing the way people send money. To illustrate how the UK has taken to Barclays Pingit, we have produced an infographic.
- Barclays Pingit users have sent almost £10 million 2 in the 100 days 3 since launch on 16 February 2012.
- The service, the UK’s first for sending or receiving money person to person using mobile phone numbers, was also the most popular financial app in the UK Apple App Store in February 2012 4.

The infographic shows that people have been logging in on average 6 times a week to send or receive money and check their balance. There have been over 30,000 registrations by users aged 50 or over so far, and the highest number of registrations was recorded in Croydon, south London. The most common time to use Barclays Pingit is (perhaps unsurprisingly) on a Friday evening between 6 and 7pm, and iPhones are the most popular mobiles among users.
Sean Gilchrist, Managing Director of Digital Banking, said: 'Barclays Pingit is changing the way people think about money, and not just Barclays customers – anyone with a UK bank account. It’s quick, convenient and easy to use – so if your friend pays for a taxi, you can send them your half straightaway, without needing cash. No more chasing up those IOUs, just use Barclays Pingit and you're in the clear.'
