Good news: Easier log-in for Online Banking
If you currently use PINsentry to log in, you'll now be able to set up your own passcode and memorable word so that you don't have to use PINsentry every time you log in.
Using your passcode and memorable word will allow you to access many Online Banking services. You'll be able to see your balances, transfer money between your Barclays accounts and make payments to companies and people you have paid before through Online Banking. However, you'll still need to use PINsentry to make payments to people you haven't paid through Online Banking before or if the company does not appear on our pre-approved list 1.
At Barclays we are constantly enhancing our market-leading security processes so you can trust that your Online Banking with us is always safe.
When is this happening?
The new log-in screen will be introduced soon.
What do I have to do?
Customers with PINsentry card readers:
You don’t need to do anything differently – simply log in as you did before. But if you want to have the option to log in with a passcode and memorable word, you can do so. We are phasing our changes in, so when you see our new log-in screen appear, you can set up a new passcode and memorable word by following the 4 steps listed below.
4 steps to setting up a new passcode and memorable word
Step 1: Log in using your PINsentry.
Step 2: Go to the 'Customise my site' page in the right-hand menu.
Step 3: Select 'Set up my 5-digit passcode and memorable word'.
Step 4: Enter your new details and save.
Once you have completed the steps above, you’ll be able to use either PINsentry or your passcode and memorable word to log in to Online Banking. You can then save the log-in style you prefer to use as your default option. If you change your mind, you can select the alternative log-in screen and change your default settings at any time.
Customers who currently use a passcode and memorable word to log in:
There is no change and therefore you do not have to take any action.
But if you would like to upgrade to PINsentry to gain access to our full range of online services, our screens will help you do this. Once you receive your new PINsentry card reader you can set up a new passcode and memorable word so that you can still access your accounts as you do today.
The PINsentry card reader provides you with more flexibility in Online Banking and allows you to – for example – make payments to people you haven’t paid before through Online Banking.
I use a PINsentry to log in to my Online Banking. How am I affected?
If you use PINsentry to log into Online Banking, you can now set up a passcode and memorable word using the 4 steps above for those times when you do not have your PINsentry with you. If you log in using your new passcode and memorable word and try to complete an action that requires PINsentry (eg setting up a new payee) you will be prompted to use your PINsentry to complete the activity.
Do I have to set up a passcode and memorable word?
No. Setting up a passcode and memorable word is optional, so if you want to (or need to use the full range of Online Banking services) you can continue to use PINsentry every time you log in. If you are a regular user of Mobile Banking you may want to consider creating a passcode and memorable word to make it easier to bank on the move.
I have lost my PINsentry card reader. What do I do?
Guidance for Business customers can be found here: Forgotten your card reader
I use a passcode and memorable word currently. How am I affected?
Using a passcode and memorable word is secure and lets you see balances and transactions, transfer money between your Barclays accounts and make payments to people and companies that you have paid before through Online Banking. You are not currently able to use the full Online Banking service, for example you cannot make first-time payments to individuals or companies who do not appear on our pre-approved list 1. If you wish to make a payment to a new payee you will need a PINsentry card reader. Our screens will help you to order one. Once you have upgraded to PINsentry, you will still be able to access your accounts using your passcode and memorable word if you wish.
