Legal terms for SmartSpend Shopping
These legal terms are about SmartSpend Shopping and apply to your use of the SmartSpend Shopping website (the "Site”). The Site is operated by Top Benefit Schemes Ltd on behalf of Barclays Bank plc. These legal terms are between you the customer, and us/we, Barclays Bank plc.
Please read through these Terms. We can change these Terms, or any cashback offer, at any time without prior notice although any changes will not apply to purchases that you have already made through SmartSpend Shopping prior to the changes coming into effect. Any changes we make to these Terms will be available on the Site. By using the Site you agree to be legally bound by these Terms. You should save and/or print a copy of these Terms for future reference.
Who can use SmartSpend Shopping?
To benefit from SmartSpend Shopping you must be at least 18 years old and have an eligible account with Barclays. You must also be a Barclays Online Banking or Mobile Banking customer.
How it works: In-store
You must first register for the in-store offers you want to receive through the SmartSpend Shopping Site. If you don’t register first, you will not be eligible to receive cashback when you make in-store purchases at participating retailers.
All in-store purchases must be made using your Barclays debit card; otherwise you will not be eligible to receive cashback. Barclays will identify all the purchases eligible for cashback using your registration details and your debit card transaction data.
How it works: Online
You can earn cashback on eligible purchases made through SmartSpend Shopping at selected UK retailers. Cashback will be calculated as a percentage of the applicable price as set out in the relevant cashback offer for any eligible purchases made through SmartSpend Shopping or in-store.
You must access the eligible retailer’s website through SmartSpend Shopping to be eligible for cashback. You should not go directly to the retailer’s website. Participating retailers and offers will be shown on the Site and the cashback amount may vary depending on the retailer and whether the purchase is made online or in-store.
Every time you access a participating retailer’s site through SmartSpend Shopping, we will apply a cookie to your computer or mobile device so that we know that you’ve accessed the retailer’s site directly through SmartSpend Shopping and that you will be eligible for cashback. Please see the cookies section of the terms, below for more details. You will be subject to the respective retailer’s terms and conditions so please check these for details on delivery and cancellation policies and any variation to specific cashback rates for specific particular goods or services offered by the retailer.
You can pay for your purchase with any debit or credit card or payment method shown on the retailer’s website.
Barclays will earn commission from any cashback-eligible purchase you make, but this will always be less than the amount of cashback being paid to you, and will not affect the cost of your purchase.
How your cashback will be paid
After you have made your purchase, your cashback will be calculated and will be paid to you. This can take up to 35 - 45 working days. However, if you cancel or return any eligible purchases and receive a full refund then cashback will not be paid. If you exchange your purchase for another eligible purchase or receive a partial refund then your cashback will be calculated accordingly. If this happens then it may take a bit longer to pay your cashback to you.
Unless you tell us otherwise, the account into which cashback is paid will be, in order of priority, the following eligible accounts: your personal current account, personal savings account, joint current account, joint savings account, business current account, and business deposit account. If you are a Barclays Blue Rewards customer then your cashback will be paid into your Rewards Wallet.
We reserve the right to reclaim or make balance adjustments accordingly where it has been established that any cashback has been applied or calculated in error. We reserve the right to withhold or reclaim any cashback we believe has been obtained fraudulently.
How you will be notified that your cashback has been paid
Where you have provided us with your mobile number, we will send you a SMS alert to let you know that your cashback has been paid into your account. To opt out of this service you can go to your local branch or contact us on 03457 345345 If you are a Premier customer you can call us on 08009 247 365.
By accepting these terms and conditions, you agree that we may contact you from time to time with marketing messages in relation to SmartSpend Shopping.
You will receive a welcome email from us the first time you use SmartSpend Shopping and this will include instructions on how to stop receiving marketing emails from us. After you have registered your interest for in-store offers, you will receive a separate welcome email from us setting out your choices and cash back rates available.
Participating Retailers’ websites
Although you can access participating retailers’ websites through SmartSpend Shopping, such links are not an endorsement by us of any products or services offered on such websites. You use such links entirely at your own risk and we accept no responsibility or liability for the content, use or availability of such websites. We have not verified the truth or accuracy of any content of such websites.

Sharing your information
We will be able to see how you use the SmartSpend Shopping Site, including the date, location and value of purchases you make online and in-store. This is so that we can calculate your cashback; answer any queries you have about your cashback and continue to offer you products and services that are relevant.
If any term, condition, or provision of these Terms is determined to be unlawful, invalid, void, or for any reason unenforceable, the validity and enforceability of the remaining terms, conditions and provisions shall not in any way be affected or invalidated.
If we don’t exercise rights that we have against you straight away, we can still do so later.
English law applies to these Terms and the parties submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
