How to apply

Applying for your Euro Mortgage is similar to applying for a Sterling mortgage in the UK. See our step-by-step process below:

  1. Complete a Spanish mortgage application form
    Contact Us today to get your mortgage application form.
  2. Mortgage assessment.
    Once we have your completed Spanish mortgage application, we'll assess the information you've provided to make sure we have everything we need. Your Relationship Manager will keep you updated on the status of your application and will let you know if we need anything more from you.
    Generally, if we have everything we need to make an initial assessment, we will contact you so that we can arrange for a surveyor to inspect the property.
  3. Agreement in Principle
    Once we have reviewed all the information provided we will be able to provide you with an Agreement in principle.
  4. Mortgage offer
    On receipt of a satisfactory valuation we will undertake a final review. Once the mortgage is agreed, a mortgage offer will be made. This, together with the valuation report will be available for six months from the date of issue. Please note that the interest rate quoted at the offer stage is a guide only and the final rate agreed with will be subject to 12 months EURIBOR quoted on the day of completion.
  5. Overseas payments
    One of the things you will need to do once your mortgage and local account have been set up is transfer money for your mortgage from your UK account to you local account. Barclays Buying Abroad offer a 'fee free' service if you are transferring money from your UK Barclays Account to your Spanish Barclays account.   6. Insurance
    You must insure your new home against damage, and the start of your policy must coincide with the completion of your mortgage. Find out more.
  7. Bank account
    Once you have agreed the mortgage offer, we'll set you up with a local bank account to pay your utilities and bills.
