Private medical insurance covers the treatment of acute conditions. That's an illness, injury or disease which responds promptly to care. It's intended to protect against the unknown, and see the policy holder return to the level of health they enjoyed before becoming ill. In general, it doesn't cover existing conditions, chronic illnesses or long-term treatment.

Quotes are based on the choices applicants make, like whether to provide a medical history, accept NHS treatment if it's available within six weeks, or add out-patient treatment to the policy.
