How do I pay a credit card or utility bill?

There are a number of ways you can pay a bill:

  • Online banking

You can make a one-off payment to pay a bill in Online Banking, if you’re registered.

First, go to the ‘Pay and transfer’ menu on your Online Banking homepage and select the ‘Make a payment’ link in. Now you can pay a bill in 3 simple steps:

    1. Enter payment details

If you've made a payment to the company before, their details will be on your payee list. If you haven't, you'll need PINsentry (either the card reader or Mobile PINsentry) as well as the name of the company you're paying, their sort code and account number.

During Step 1 you’ll be asked to type a reference. If you're paying a credit card, this should be your 16-digit credit card number. For other companies, it could be your account or reference number.

    2. Confirm details

Please make sure you check the payment details carefully before you confirm the payment.

    3. Receive receipt

You'll see a screen confirming all the details of your payment, including the expected time it will take to reach the account.

  • Mobile banking

To pay a bill through the Barclays Mobile Banking app, go to the ‘Pay’ screen and select the account that you would like to pay the bill from. Then select the person/payee that you would like to pay, enter the amount, and review and confirm the payment.

  • Barclays Pingit

To pay a bill through Barclays Pingit, tap ‘Business Payment’ on the Pay screen and search by category or business name. Then tap the ‘Pay’ icon next to the business you’d like to pay, enter the amount, and review and confirm the payment.

If you can’t find the business you want to pay, this means that they don’t currently accept payments through Barclays Pingit and you’ll need to pay your bill through another method.

  • By phone

You can pay a credit card or utility bill using Telephone Banking* (if you’re registered). Make sure to have the sort code and account number of the business, as well as your account and reference numbers, to hand when you call.
