How do I make a payment to someone I’ve paid before?

There are a number of ways you can make a payment to someone you’ve paid before:

  • Online Banking

    You can easily make payments by going to the top menu on your Online Banking homepage and selecting ‘Pay and transfer’ and then ‘Make a payment’.

    Making a payment is a 3-step process

    1. Enter payment details.

    2. Confirm details.

    3. Receive receipt.

    1. Enter payment details

    Since you've made a payment to this person previously, their details will be on your payee list. So you’ll just need to type a reference. This could be anything that will be helpful for you (and the person you're paying) to identify the payment.

    2.Confirm details

    Please make sure you check the payment details carefully before you confirm the payment.

    3. Receive receipt

    You'll see a screen confirming all the details of your payment, including the expected time it will take to reach the account. You can also download a PDF of the receipt.

  • Mobile banking

    Once you've logged in using your secure passcode:

    1. Select the 'Pay' button on the bottom bar and then choose the 'bill' or 'payee' you’d like to pay and the account you'd like to pay from.

    2. Enter the amount and select whether you'd like to pay immediately or set a future date for payment. 

    3. Then select the 'Pay' button to complete your payment. You can also set up a new payee.

  • Barclays Pingit

    You can pay someone using Barclays Pingit whether you bank with Barclays or not. You can either enter in their full UK mobile number or select them from your contact list. Next, you need to enter in the amount you want to pay. To send the payment, tap ‘Send payment’ and then tap the green ‘OK’ button to confirm.

    Both you and the person you’re paying will receive a text message push notification confirming that a payment has been made. If they’re registered with Barclays Pingit, they’ll receive the payment immediately. If they’re not, we’ll send them a text message asking them to register within 24 hours or 5 days (the customer can choose which) to receive their payment.

  • By Phone

    You can make a payment to someone using Telephone Banking (if you’re registered). Make sure to have their sort code and account number to hand when you call.

    Business customers – call 0345 605 2345* 

  • Branch

    You can make a payment to someone over the counter in branch so long as you have their sort code and account number.
