Our Online Banking service is a safe way to manage your money, however online crime is a growing area that everybody needs to be aware of. This short video will show what Barclays is doing to protect you from online fraud as well as explaining some simple things that you can do to help protect yourself.
This short Barclays video explains simple things you can do to protect yourself from online fraud as well as explaining what Barclays is doing to protect online customers.
Always access Online Banking via www.barclays.co.uk. Never access a link that
has been provided in an email and enter personal details. Always ensure there is a padlock displayed in the bottom right hand corner of the page, this indicates a secure connection.
Always be wary of unsolicited emails or calls asking you to disclose any details of current accounts or card details. Keep this information secret. Be wary of disclosing any personal information to someone you don't know. Barclays will never contact you asking for your PIN of password.
Don't be conned by convincing emails offering you the chance to make some easy money. If it looks too good to be true, it probably is! Be especially wary of unsolicited emails from outside the UK - it will be much harder to prove they are who they say they are.
Use up-to-date security software and a personal firewall and, if your computer uses the Microsoft Windows operating system, keep it updated from the Microsoft website. Be extra careful if using Internet cafes or any PC which is not your own and over which you have no control.
All Online Banking users are eligible for free security software. Find out more.
If in doubt, a good place to get help and guidance is accessing the Barclays security channel. Check regularly for specific information and guidance on protecting your PC and yourself online.
Ensure you check your current account statement at regular intervals. If you notice anything irregular contact us immediately.
If you spot a transaction you do not recognise, contact our helpdesk immediately on 0845 600 2323.
Always learn your password and other security information and destroy the notification letters immediately, never write down or record your PIN or passwords and always take reasonable steps to ensure your PIN and passwords are kept secret at all times.

What others thought
Tony - I use PINsentry and feel secure in doing so. This video is very informative.
Jane - There is fraud everywhere so this will help put minds at ease that online is just as safe as anything else. Thanks Barclays!
Sanoj - A very informative video to fight against online fraud. PINsentry is safer I use it every day.
Tom - PINsentry is a great idea; it makes me feel a lot safer when I log in to Online Banking.
Stephen - Very informative and useful, thank you.
V Ward - Informative. I check my account every single day, but have almost replied in the past to emails claiming to be from my bank. Luckily, I didn't do it. Since then, I've become more vigilant, as I get them from several banks, and not just the one I bank with.
Raff - Helpful, thanks! I've been the victim of fraud in the past so I am pleased PINsentry has been introduced.
Graham - The video was very useful. How do I go about getting hold of a PINsentry card reader?
Barclays - If you currently use Online Banking, you will be guided through the screens to upgrade to PINsentry if you try to set up a new 3rd party payment or standing order in Online Banking. You can also call the Online Banking Helpdesk on 0845 600 2323 to upgrade your account. If you don't currently use Online Banking you can register online via the 'Register now' link on the Barclays homepage, at your local branch or by contacting the Online Banking Helpdesk on 0845 600 2323.
Harold - I already have a card reader provided by another bank. Does this mean we now have to have a card reader for every financial institution that we deal with online? Please, please NO! Before this goes any further please cooperate with each other to provide an industry-wide standard so that only ONE such device is required. Anything else is simply absurd!
Barclays - All UK Bank card readers adopt an APACS standard and are interoperable. Therefore you can log on to Barclays Online Banking using another bank's card reader and vice versa.
Emma - I think it would be good if the tips related closer to the video and maybe loaded up after the video so your attention was focussed on it the whole way through? Thanks though, useful information!
Linsa - Very good, I already use PINsentry.
Ernest - I don't really see how safer the PINsentry is because it’s no different from the former method of punching in your passwords/numbers.
Barclays - PINsentry uses dynamic security credentials at logon, therefore even if the PIN were disclosed the unique code has already been used. Customers are also asked to sign payments, therefore defeating Phishing attacks and Trojans.
Alex - Great site section.
Duncan - A very informative video this makes me feel safer banking online.
Rob - Basic advice which should go a long way in the fight against online fraud.
Shauny - I like this video.
Ahemd - The tips I've got from here are really helpful, thanks a lot.
