What happens after your payment holiday ends

What happens after your payment holiday ends

Now that your payment holiday has ended, here’s some information about how we can support you.

What happens now my temporary loan support is ending?

If we haven’t contacted you already, we’ll get in touch before your payment holiday ends. You don’t need to do anything until then. We’ll explain how your outstanding balance has changed, any interest that’s accrued, and what your payments will be in our letter. We’ve continued charging you interest as normal during this time, like we mentioned when you began your payment holiday extension or structured plan. We’ve added this to your loan balance each month, and we’ll charge interest on that increased amount from the time it was added until the end of what’s left of your term.

Unless you agree something else with us, we’ll start taking your normal monthly payments after 31 July.

Worried about your loan payments?

If you’re worried about making your monthly payments, or you need longer-term support, there are other ways we can help.

Talking to us about your financial situation – and any issues you have that might affect your payments – makes it easier for us to work out how best to manage your loan going forward.

Before you call us, please fill out our income and expenditure form to let us know your circumstances. You’ll need your Payment Holiday ID – you’ll find this in the letter we sent you. This will save time, as it means we’ll already have some of your information to hand when we speak to you. We’ll still need to ask you more questions.

After you’ve completed our form, please wait 24 hours for our systems to update your information. Then give us a call on 0800 161 52341 so we can go through your options with you.

If your next payment’s due within seven days, and your new plan hasn’t started in time, we’ll take the full payment amount (you’ll see this in your letter), and your new payments will start next month instead.

Will any of these options affect my credit score?

It depends on the support we decide to give you. Some of the options available to you might affect your credit score, depending on your circumstances.

More ways we can help

Can I make overpayments to cover the amount I deferred on my payment holiday?

Yes, you can and there are a number of ways to do it. Log in to Online Banking, the Barclays app3, or call us on 0333 202 7412. We’re open Monday to Friday 8am to 7pm2.

Making overpayments means you pay off your loan balance quicker and pay less interest over the remaining term.

Get in touch

We have fewer colleagues than usual answering the phones right now because of the coronavirus situation. This is having a big impact on our call waiting times – we’re truly sorry about this. If you have an immediate financial problem that isn’t covered above, and which can’t wait, please contact us.
