Terms and conditions for services you access using our Online Banking service and the Barclays app.

Terms and conditions 

These terms and conditions apply to retailer offers and cashback shopping that you’ve accessed via Barclays Online Banking or the Barclays app (‘the Service’). These terms are between ‘you’, the customer, and ‘us’, Barclays Bank UK PLC.

Who can use the Service?

You must be at least 18 years old, have an eligible account with Barclays and be registered for Barclays Online Banking or the Barclays app to use the Service.

Retailer offers

Retailer offers from selected retailers include discounts, vouchers and money-saving offers in Barclays Online Banking and the Barclays app.  

How it works

We’ll send you offers tailored to suit you – to get them, you’ll need to be registered for Barclays Online Banking or the Barclays app and have agreed that we can contact you.

Each offer will have its own set of terms and conditions from the retailer – please read them carefully. If you take up the offer, it’s the retailer’s responsibility to fulfil it. If you’ve got questions about the offer, contact the retailer directly.

If any offers are withdrawn, we’re not responsible for finding alternatives, but we may do so if that’s reasonably possible.

There are a number of ways to redeem an offer, depending on what it is – simply follow the instructions for each offer. You’ll need to redeem the offer with the retailer directly.

To redeem an offer, you may need to use a discount code when you pay for your item (either online, at the checkout or by presenting the code in store). The codes are provided by the retailers and are only for customers who are eligible for the offers. The retailer can refuse to accept the code if they don’t think you’re eligible.

Offers are only valid for a limited time.

We won’t share your personal information with the retailer, but when you redeem the offer the retailer will know you’ve met the targeting criteria for the offer.

We’ll send you promotional messages from time to time, unless you have previously advised us that you do not wish to receive these types of communications.

You will be subject to the retailer’s terms and conditions, so please check these for further details.

Third-party sites

Although you can access third-party sites using the Service, we don’t endorse any products or services on them. Using third-party site links is at your own risk and we accept no responsibility or liability for the content, use, availability or purchases you make through them. We haven’t checked the truth or accuracy of any third-party site content, and we aren’t liable for any loss or damage that may arise from using them. Nothing in the provision of the Service constitutes credit-broking activities by us.

Cashback

You can earn cashback on eligible purchases using the cashback Service. To be eligible for cashback, you must either a) access the retailer’s sites from Barclays Online Banking or the Barclays app, not directly or b) ‘Activate’ the offer on Barclays Online Banking or the Barclays app. Please see the cookies section of these terms for more information. Any cashback will be a set amount, as explained in the relevant cashback offer.

You can change your designated account in the Barclays app by going to ‘Your rewards’ in ‘Account management’ and tapping on ‘Manage rewards’. In Barclays Online Banking, you’ll need to go to ‘Your cashback earnings’ and select 'Change account'. You can then select an eligible account from the drop-down menu.

If you close your account before your cashback is paid, we’ll pay it in another eligible account you hold. If you don’t hold another eligible Barclays account, you won’t get any cashback.

Cashback on your shopping

A selection of retailers will offer cashback on purchases made at their stores (in store) or via their sites (online) or both when you access them via Barclays Online Banking or the Barclays appRetailer participation will vary from time to time.

Offers that you ‘Activate’

For certain offers, to get cashback when you make purchases at participating retailers, you must activate the offers you want to take up through Barclays Online Banking or the Barclays app. If you don’t do this, you won’t be eligible for cashback.

All purchases must be made using your Barclays debit card, otherwise you won’t be eligible to get cashback. We’ll identify all purchases eligible for cashback using your registration details and your debit card transaction data.

You can earn cashback on eligible purchases you make through selected UK retailers. Cashback will be calculated as a percentage of the price given in the relevant cashback offer for any eligible purchases.

After you’ve activated cashback offers, you’ll get emails from us, for example to explain your choices and the cashback rates available, and to let you know that any offer you’re using is about to expire (or has expired). You can't opt out of getting these emails.

Offers where you access the site via Barclays Online Banking or the Barclays app

You must access the retailer’s site through the cashback section on Barclays Online Banking or the Barclays app to be eligible for cashback. You should not go directly to the retailer’s site. Participating retailers and offers will be shown on the site and the cashback amount may vary depending on the retailer or during a promotional period.

Every time you access a participating retailer’s site via the cashback shopping site, we’ll apply a cookie to your computer or mobile device so that we know you’ve accessed the retailer’s site and that you’ll be eligible for cashback. For more details, please see the cookies section of the terms (below). You’ll be subject to the retailer’s terms and conditions, so please check these for details on delivery and cancellation policies, and any variation to specific cashback rates for certain goods or services the retailer offers.

You can pay for your purchase with any debit or credit card shown on the retailer’s site.

We’ll earn commission from any cashback-eligible purchase you make, but this will always be less than the amount of cashback we pay to you, and won’t affect the cost of your purchase.

How your cashback will be paid

After you’ve made your purchase, we’ll calculate your cashback and pay it to you. This can take up to 77 working days. If you cancel or return any eligible purchases and get a full refund, then we won’t pay cashback. If you exchange your purchase for another eligible purchase, or get a partial refund, then your cashback will be calculated accordingly. If this happens, then it may take a bit longer to pay your cashback to you.

Unless you tell us otherwise, the account we’ll pay the cashback into will be, in order of priority, the following eligible accounts: your Rewards Wallet (if you’re a Barclays Blue Rewards customer), your personal current account, your personal savings account, your joint current account, your joint savings account, your business current account, or your business deposit account.

If we find out that any cashback has been given or calculated incorrectly, we reserve the right to reclaim or make balance adjustments accordingly. We reserve the right to withhold or reclaim any cashback we believe has been obtained fraudulently.

Important information

Please read through these terms. We can change them, or any offer, at any time without notice, though any changes won’t apply to purchases that you have already made through the Barclays app and Barclays Online Banking before the changes coming into effect. Any changes we make to these terms will be available to view on the retailer offers pages for the Barclays app and Barclays Online Banking. By using the Service, you agree to be legally bound by these terms. You should save and/or print a copy of these terms for future reference.

If any term, condition, or provision of these terms is found to be unlawful, invalid, void, or unenforceable for any reason, the validity and enforceability of the remaining terms, conditions and provisions shall not in any way be affected or invalidated.

If we don’t exercise rights that we have against you straight away, we can still do so later.

English law applies to these terms, and the parties agree to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

Your information

When you access the sites, you’ll be subject to the terms and conditions, privacy policy and cookies policy of your chosen provider’s site (except as stated below for cashback shopping). Where there’s a conflict between the privacy notice that applies to your Barclays account, these additional conditions, and the site’s privacy policy, the provisions of your chosen provider's privacy policy will take precedence when you’re using the site.

Contacting you

If you update your email address on the Retailer’s site it won’t update the email address we hold for you.

By using the cashback Service, you agree that retailers may contact you from time to time with marketing messages – to change this, you’ll need to set your preferences directly with the retailer.

We’ll send you promotional messages unless you’ve already opted out.

Sharing your information

We’re committed to protecting your personal data. We’ll use your information for a number of different reasons – for example, to manage your account(s), to provide our products and services to you and others, and to meet our legal and regulatory obligations. We may also share your information with our trusted third parties for these purposes. Credit reference and fraud prevention agencies

To process your application, we’ll supply your personal information to credit reference and fraud prevention agencies. They’ll give us information about you, such as about your financial history. We do this to work out your creditworthiness and which products are suitable for you, check your identity, manage your account, trace and recover debts and prevent criminal activity. These agencies may share your personal information with other organisations. If fraud is detected, you could be refused certain services, finance or employment. Once you open an account with us, we’ll share account data with the credit reference agencies on an ongoing basis.

If you give us false or inaccurate information, and fraud is identified, details may be passed to credit reference and fraud prevention agencies to prevent fraud and money laundering and to verify your identity.

For cashback shopping, we won’t share any personal data with participating retailers. See our cookies policy below for more details.

For cashback shopping, we’ll be able to see the retailer, date, and value of purchases you make online and in store for the same reasons. We won’t be able to see the individual purchases you make.

Your use of Barclays cashback will be subject to our cookie policy. Every time you access a participating retailer’s site through cashback shopping, your computer or mobile device will download a cookie so that we can recognise that you’ve accessed the retailer’s site through cashback shopping and that you’ll be eligible for cashback. This means that we don’t need to share your personal data with any of the retailers for an eligible purchase. You can’t opt out of this cookie – without it, we wouldn’t be able to keep a record of how much cashback we owe you.
