About online offers
Terms and conditions for services you access using our Online Banking service and the Barclays Mobile Banking app.
These terms apply to offers relating to cashback shopping and Expedia ‘the Websites’ accessed via BMB and Online Banking ‘the Service’.
These legal terms are between you, the customer, and us, Barclays Bank UK PLC.
Who can use the Service
To benefit you must be at least 18 years old and have an eligible account with Barclays. You must also be a BMB or Online Banking customer.
You can earn cashback on eligible purchases using the Service. You must access the Websites via BMB or Online Banking to be eligible for cashback, not via the Websites directly. Please see the cookies section of the terms for further information. Any cashback will be a set price as set out in the relevant cashback offer.
Unless you tell us otherwise the account into which cashback is paid will be (in order of priority) your personal current account, personal savings account, joint current account, joint savings account, business current account, and business deposit account.
You can change your designated account on BMB by going to ‘Your rewards’ section in Account Management and tapping on ‘Manage rewards’. In Online Banking you will need to go to ‘Your cashback earnings’ page and select 'Change account'. You can then select an eligible account from the dropdown menu.
If you close your account before cashback is paid, we will pay it in to the next eligible Barclays account.
If you hold no other eligible Barclays accounts, you will not receive any cashback.
If you are a Barclays Blue Rewards customer then your cashback will be paid into your Rewards Wallet.
The relevant specific cashback offers are explained below.
An online travel service offering cashback on eligible bookings made with Expedia when accessed via BMB and Online Banking.
We will pay an amount of cashback calculated as a percentage on any eligible bookings made through the Expedia website. Cashback will be paid to you on
- Standalone hotel bookings – 6%
- Flight + hotel bookings – to be eligible for cashback, you must purchase both the flight and hotel together as part of a single booking – 3%
- Car hire – 3%
- Things to do – 3%
Cashback is available on travel which is booked for friends or family. For businesses, this means a member of staff with personal access to the Website could earn cashback for themselves by booking business travel for themselves and / or their colleagues. However, Barclays will not be responsible for resolving any disputes between businesses and their staff under such circumstances.
Additional items you add to an existing booking will earn the same rate of cashback as the original booking (apart from standalone flights added to an existing, standalone hotel booking, please see below).
Earn an enhanced rate of cashback for online travel bookings made through Barclays cashback shopping on Expedia hotel only bookings, made between 12 March 2018 and 1 May 2018 (the Offer Period) , for travel between 13 March 2018 and 31 December 2018.
Enhanced rate of cashback offer (Offer) are
- Stay 1 night, get an additional 2% cashback on top of the standard 6% cashback
- Stay 3 nights, get an additional 4% cashback on top of the standard 6% cashback
- Stay 5 or more nights, get an additional 6% cashback on top of the standard 6% cashback
The above enhanced cashback is only available for hotel bookings up to £1,000.00.
- Your cashback will be paid no later than 3 working days after your trip ends, if you pay for the booking in advance
- Your cashback will be paid no later than 30 working days after your trip ends, if you pay for the booking on departure
- If you’re a Barclays Blue Rewards customer, your additional 1% enhanced cashback will be paid no later than 45 working days after the retailer confirms your purchase and will show as a separate payment (Barclays Blue Rewards eligibility criteria and monthly fee apply)
- If you’re a Barclays Blue Rewards customer at the time of the cashback payment it will be credited to your Blue Rewards wallet
- If you’re not registered to Barclays Blue Rewards at the time of the cashback payment it will be credited to your current account at the enhanced rate
- This Offer cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer, only one offer per customer booking
We reserve the right to withdraw this offer at any time.
Cashback won't be paid to you on
- Standalone flight bookings
- The flight portion of a booking if a flight is added to an existing standalone hotel booking
- Any other products / product combinations (other than those listed above) available on the Website including Eurostar bookings. However, adding these purchases to your booking will not affect the cashback on the eligible portion (standalone hotel, flight + hotel booking, car hire, things to do)
- Any fees incurred for cancellations or changes to bookings that you make
- Mandatory fees and taxes collected by the hotel at the time of your stay (eg resort fees, city tax)
- Any amount you pay for your booking using gift vouchers, gift cards or coupon codes
- Bookings made for commercial purposes (ie travel agents booking for their clients)
- Any extension to a hotel booking once you've checked in
You will not be able to claim cashback on additional items you purchase outside of your booking such as purchases from the hotel (eg room service), car hire, or a flight booking.
Please note that cashback will only be paid on bookings made using the Service. If you make a booking directly through the expedia.co.uk site you will not be able to earn any cashback. You cannot earn cashback by making bookings over the telephone (unless the Service is unavailable due to unforeseen system problems with Barclays or the Expedia Website which will be notified to you). However, you can make changes over the telephone to an existing booking and still earn cashback.
Subject to the above, there are no restrictions on how often you book travel or how much cashback you can earn. However, Barclays reserves the right to withhold or reclaim any cashback it believes has been obtained fraudulently.
Barclays will earn commission from any cashback-eligible booking you make, but this will always be less than the cashback you receive by making a booking using the Service and will not affect the cost of your booking.
Amount of cashback
The cashback amount on eligible bookings is calculated as a percentage of the booking value – including taxes and fees (but excluding taxes and fees such as resort fees or city tax collected by the hotel at the time of your stay) – paid using a debit or credit card.
Barclays reserves the right to vary the amount of cashback paid from time to time. You’ll be notified of any variation to this amount and variations will not apply to any bookings made prior to the change.
You can pay for your booking with any debit or credit card or payment method shown on the Expedia Website.
The percentage level of cashback you are eligible for at the time of booking will remain fixed, regardless of any changes you make to your booking.
If you cancel your booking and receive a full refund, you will not receive any cashback.
If you cancel your booking and receive a partial refund, you will receive cashback for the non-refunded amount only. Cancellation fees are not eligible for cashback.
If you change your booking, your cashback amount will be adjusted pro rata in line with the new cost of the booking. Change fees are not eligible for cashback.
If you are a business user, there may be tax implications for earning cashback. It is your responsibility to ensure any cashback you earn complies with applicable tax rules.
You will be able to collect points on most loyalty programmes offered by airlines, hotels and car hire companies available on the Expedia Website. You will find a full list of loyalty programmes supported in 'My account' in the top right-hand corner of any page when you visit the Expedia Website. In order to collect points, you will need to register your membership details in this section. You will need to do this just once. Points will then automatically be added to your account whenever you book.
We reserve the right to withdraw participation from some or all partners from time to time.
Unlike the Expedia.co.uk site, you will not be able to earn Nectar points on the Website.
How to book
You will need access to Barclays Online Banking or Barclays Mobile Banking to access the Website. This is the only way to access the Website.
You need to provide a valid email address to access the Website. If you haven't already provided Barclays with an email address, you will be required to provide one when you first use the Website.
When you will receive your cashback
Any cashback you earn will appear in your cashback account as 'pending'. This will be physically paid into your current account or savings account once you've completed your travel as follows
- If you pay for your booking in full at the time of booking, your cashback will be paid in to your Barclays account within 3 working days of the final day of your travel itinerary
- If you pay for your booking when you check out of your hotel, your cashback will be paid in to your Barclays account within 30 working days of the final day of your travel itinerary
Cashback on your shopping
A selection of retailers offering cashback on purchases made at their stores (in-store) and via their websites when accessed via BMB and Online Banking (online). Retailer participation will vary from time to time.
You must first activate the in-store offers you want to receive through the cashback shopping site. If you don’t activate first, you will not be eligible to receive cashback when you make in-store purchases at participating retailers.
All in-store purchases must be made using your Barclays debit card, otherwise you will not be eligible to receive cashback. Barclays will identify all the purchases eligible for cashback using your registration details and your debit card transaction data.
You can earn cashback on eligible purchases made through selected UK retailers. Cashback will be calculated as a percentage of the applicable price as set out in the relevant cashback offer for any eligible purchases made in-store.
You must access the retailer’s website through the cashback shopping site to be eligible for cashback. You should not go directly to the retailer’s website. Participating retailers and offers will be shown on the site and the cashback amount may vary depending on the retailer.
Every time you access a participating retailer’s site via the cashback shopping site, we will apply a cookie to your computer or mobile device so that we know that you’ve accessed the retailer’s site and that you will be eligible for cashback. Please see the cookies section of the terms, below for more details. You will be subject to the respective retailer’s terms and conditions so please check these for details on delivery and cancellation policies and any variation to specific cashback rates for specific particular goods or services offered by the retailer.
You can pay for your purchase with any debit or credit card or payment method shown on the retailer’s website.
Barclays will earn commission from any cashback-eligible purchase you make, but this will always be less than the amount of cashback being paid to you, and will not affect the cost of your purchase.
How your cashback will be paid
After you have made your purchase, your cashback will be calculated and will be paid to you. This can take up to 35 - 45 working days. However, if you cancel or return any eligible purchases and receive a full refund then cashback will not be paid. If you exchange your purchase for another eligible purchase or receive a partial refund then your cashback will be calculated accordingly. If this happens then it may take a bit longer to pay your cashback to you.
Unless you tell us otherwise, the account into which cashback is paid will be, in order of priority, the following eligible accounts: your personal current account, personal savings account, joint current account, joint savings account, business current account, and business deposit account. If you are a Barclays Blue Rewards customer, then your cashback will be paid into your Rewards Wallet.
We reserve the right to reclaim or make balance adjustments accordingly where it has been established that any cashback has been applied or calculated in error. We reserve the right to withhold or reclaim any cashback we believe has been obtained fraudulently.
Third party websites
Although you can access third party websites using the Service, such links are not an endorsement by us of any products or services found in such websites. You use such links entirely at your own risk and we accept no responsibility or liability for the content, use, availability or purchases made through such websites. We have not verified the truth or accuracy of any content of third party websites.
Please read through these terms. We can change these terms, or any cashback offer, at any time without prior notice although any changes will not apply to purchases that you have already made through BMB and Online Banking prior to the changes coming into effect. Any changes we make to these terms will be available to view on the retailer offers pages of BMB and Online Banking. By using the Service, you agree to be legally bound by these terms. You should save and/or print a copy of these terms for future reference.
If any term, condition, or provision of these terms is determined to be unlawful, invalid, void, or for any reason unenforceable, the validity and enforceability of the remaining terms, conditions and provisions shall not in any way be affected or invalidated.
If we don’t exercise rights that we have against you straight away, we can still do so later.
English law applies to these terms and the parties submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
Your chosen provider(s) will sometimes need to contact you with information about the Service you have requested. For example about any booking you have made with Expedia. When your chosen provider(s) contacts you it will use your most recent email address. If you update your email address on the Websites it will not update the email address Barclays holds for you.
After you have activated in-store offers, you will receive further emails from us, for example to set out your choices, the cashback rates available and to let you know that any offer you are using is about to expire, or has expired. You cannot opt out of receiving these emails.
By accepting these terms and conditions, you agree that your chosen provider(s) may contact you from time to time with marketing messages.
You will receive a welcome email the first time you use the Service from your chosen provider via the Website and this will include instructions on how to stop receiving marketing emails from your chosen provider(s).
Barclays will send you promotional communications relating to your chosen provider(s) unless you have previously advised us that you do not wish to receive these types of communications.
Sharing your information
We're committed to protecting your personal data. We'll use your information for a number of different purposes, for example, to manage your account(s), to provide our products and services to you and others and to meet our legal and regulatory obligations. We may also share your information with our trusted third parties for these purposes. Credit Reference Agencies and Fraud Prevention Agencies
In order to process your application we will supply your personal information to credit reference agencies and fraud prevention agencies and they will give us information about you, such as about your financial history. We do this to assess creditworthiness and product suitability, check your identity, manage your account, trace and recover debts and prevent criminal activity. These agencies may in turn share your personal information with other organisations. If fraud is detected, you could be refused certain services, finance or employment. Once you open an account with us, we will share account data with the credit reference agencies on an ongoing basis.
If false or inaccurate information is provided to us and fraud is identified, details may be passed to credit reference and fraud prevention agencies to prevent fraud and money laundering and to verify your identity.

For cashback shopping, we will not share any personal data with participating retailers. See Cookies policy below for more details. For cashback shopping, we will be able to see the retailer, date, and value of purchases you make online and in store for the same reasons. We will not be able to see the individual purchases you make.
