Is data sharing through Open Banking safe and secure?

All companies who offer services enabled by Open Banking need to be approved by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). You can check whether a UK company is registered with the FCA on their website.

The safety and security of your data is our priority. That’s why we use industry-approved, Open Banking technology, known as APIs (Application Programming Interfaces), to safely share or receive your current account information from your other banks or providers.

Using this technology, your Barclays Mobile Banking app now enables you to view your accounts from other providers*, without asking you to hand over your private login-credentials from your other banks or providers. You will be shown exactly what information we will be requesting before you decide to link your accounts held with other providers into your Barclays Mobile Banking app. We will ask you to confirm on a regular basis that you would like to continue sharing this information.

*This service is not currently available if you're a Barclays Private Bank client or if you have accounts with our Jersey, Guernsey or Isle of Man offices.
