Question 2 of 11 about PPI complaints information

How can I check if I have PPI with Barclays?

If you're unsure if you have or had PPI with us, you can use our online form to find out. If you prefer, you can give us a call, check by post or visit your nearest branch instead. Select your preferred option below for more details.

You can also get touch if you know that you have or had PPI with us, and would like more information about it.

Please note, if we find a PPI policy, it won't automatically log a PPI complaint. See how to make a complaint.

Just so you know

For certain products, we need to search a variety of historic records, some of which aren’t available on our systems or may be in paper format. So that we have enough information to check if you had PPI, you’ll need to submit a complaint in the first instance.

Those products are

  • Barclays Secured Loan
  • Firstplus Secured Loan
  • Littlewoods, Index and LX Cards (Also known as Solution Finance or Handbag Cards)
  • Littlewoods Loans
  • Woolwich Loans

What we'll need

To help us locate your PPI information and contact you about it, we'll need your

  • Full name
  • Date of birth
  • Current address
  • Phone number

If you've moved or changed your name

If you bank with us, then you can update your name and address in branch, online or over the phone. We recommend you do this before you submit a PPI request to help avoid any delays.

If you no longer bank with us and your details have changed, we may need to verify your identity using information from a credit-reference agency. This search allows us to write to you with the outcome of our PPI investigation – it's only visible to you, and won’t affect your credit rating.

What happens after you've made a PPI check request

After you've submitted your PPI check request, we'll review our records to see if you had or have any products that may have had a PPI policy. We'll then write to you within 6 working days. We send our letters via Royal Mail, so it may take a few more days for the letter to reach you. If you haven't received it after this time, please re-submit your check.

The letter will outline

  • What products you had/have that included PPI
  • The associated policy and account details
  • Your next steps

Just so you know, the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) can't assist in the outcome of a PPI check.
