The Legal & General team can support you with your policy – whether you're making a claim, a change or cancelling your policy.

  • How to make claim if the policyholder dies

    We'll deal with your claim sensitively and as quickly as we can. Please contact Legal & General using the contact details on this page. You’ll need

    • The policy number
    • The name of the person who’s died
    • The cause, date and place of death, if you know this
    • Their death certificate, if you have it
    • Who you are and your relationship to the person who's died
    • Who the legal next of kin is, if you know this
    • You might get a call asking for more information. The person dealing with your claim might also write to the GP, coroner any other involved parties for additional information – we'll keep you updated throughout the process
    • If we accept your claim, we’ll send the payment to the bank account on the payment instruction form
  • How to make claim if you're diagnosed with a terminal illness

    For terminal illness claims, you must be diagnosed with a condition that’s expected to lead to your death within 12 months. We’ll pay out your amount of cover in full, once. After this happens, the policy will end and you’ll no longer have any cover.

    To make a claim, contact Legal & General using the details on this page. You’ll need

    • Your policy number
    • Details of your diagnosis and illness
    • Your GP’s contact details

    The person dealing with your claim will contact your GP to confirm the diagnosis. If you have any letters or correspondence from your hospital or GP relating to your illness, please send them in – they may help to speed up the process. We'll keep you updated throughout. If we accept your claim, we’ll send the payment to the bank account on your payment instruction form.

    You should continue to pay your premiums until we've agreed to pay your claim. If, for any reason we're not able to pay your claim, we'll contact you and explain why.

  • Increasing your cover amount

    You can increase your cover without providing medical evidence, answering health questions or completing assessments. Please bear in mind

    • You must have been under 45 when you took out the policy and your application must have been accepted on standard terms
    • You can change your policy up to three times in total and you must change your policy within six months of an event 
    • You can't change your policy if you've been diagnosed with, are getting or have had medical treatment for a terminal illness, a critical illness, carcinoma of the breast treated by surgery, or low-grade prostate cancer requiring treatment

    You can change your policy to cover

    • A mortgage increase, due to a move or major improvements
    • A salary increase, due to a new job or promotion
    • Marriage, or entry into a registered civil partnership
    • The birth or adoption of a child

    Please talk to Legal & General on 03700 104 080 2, Monday to Friday 8.30am to 6pm and Saturday 9am to 1pm. They’ll consider your request and let you know if it's possible to make the change you want and, if so, what your new premium would be. If you make any changes to the policy a new policy may be set up and different terms and conditions could apply.

  • Cancelling your policy

    You can cancel your policy at any time with no cancellation fee. If you cancel within 30 days of buying it, we’ll refund any payments you’ve made. If you cancel the policy at a later stage, you won't get any money back.
