Default

Cover in relation to Covid-19

The travel insurance in this Pack offers cover for

  • Medical treatment if you catch Covid-19 while on a trip
  • Cancellation if you’re ill with or test positive for Covid-19, preventing you from travelling*
  • Cancellation if you’re advised to self-isolate, preventing you from travelling*
  • Cancellation as a result of local lockdown restrictions in the UK, preventing you from travelling*
  • Cancellation or coming home early if, in the 31 days before travelling or while you're away, the FCDO advise against travelling to your destination*

*You won’t be covered if you need to cancel a trip because of restrictions (such as FCDO advice against travel, or government lockdown restrictions), if the measures were already in place when you booked the trip or bought this Pack (whichever was later).

If you, or anyone covered by your policy, has previously tested positive for COVID-19, you only need to tell us about this if you’ve

  • Been prescribed medication by a doctor
  • Visited hospital (including A&E)
  • Been referred for investigations or treatment

You’ll need to let us know if this applies to you or anyone covered by your policy. If so, we’ll ask you some medical screening questions to confirm if we can cover the condition. For information about existing medical conditions, please check the ‘Your Health’ section of the policy terms and conditions.

Before making a claim, you should first contact your airline, or travel or accommodation provider to discuss your options.

Pre-existing conditions upgrade

Unless you have a valid upgrade in place, we won’t cover any claim arising directly or indirectly from:

  • Any pre-existing medical condition.
  • Any symptoms for which a diagnosis has been sought but not yet received, that you were aware of prior to booking a trip (or purchasing a Pack, whichever is later).

We will never cover any claim arising directly or indirectly from any of the following:

  • Travelling against the advice of a doctor.
  • Travelling with the intention of seeking medical advice or treatment.
  • Booking a trip or travelling with a terminal prognosis.

We’ll ask you about the health of the people you want to insure when you apply for your pack, and if we can offer you cover, let you know if it’ll cost you anything extra.

If you’ve been to the doctor about symptoms and are awaiting results, we won’t be able to offer you cover until you know your diagnosis. You should wait until you know what the medical condition is before buying your pack or booking a trip.

Longer trip upgrade

If you’re going on a trip for longer than 31 days, you’ll need to buy an upgrade. The upgrade is for the whole trip, and you can cover up to a maximum of 120 days. You should get an upgrade in place as soon as you book the trip.

Upgrade quotes are available as soon as you’ve set your pack up. Any additional cost will be charged as a one off card payment, in addition to the monthly pack fee.

If FCDO advice is in place advising against all (or all but essential) travel to your destination, or for you to return home, we won’t cover:

Any claim for cancellation or coming home early if the advice or measures were in place or had been announced at the time you took out your pack or the trip was booked (whichever is later)

Any claim as a result of you travelling against the advice of the FCDO

Changes to terms and conditions

We made some changes to our Travel Plus Pack terms and conditions on 24 April 2023. If you bought your pack before this date, your terms and conditions haven’t changed and you can find them in ‘Statements and documents’ in the Barclays app.

Important information about paper documents

We’re having some problems sending documents by post for travel insurance upgrades. Once your pack is set up, you’ll be able to see these documents online. If you need any documents by post, this will take longer than usual.
