International Business Payments

Send and receive international payments

Make quick, secure and cost-effective international payments, whether you’re trading with the United States or United Arab Emirates.

Making an international payment

Electronic transfers are the most secure and fastest way to send money abroad. You can do this online, by telephone or in branch.

Barclays International Payments Services (BIPS)

Send funds electronically to almost any country in the world. Choose between

  • Standard payments – funds received in Europe and North America between 3-4 working days and the rest of the world within 8 working days if sent by 4pm
  • Priority payments – funds received in Europe and North America between 1-3 working days and the rest of the world within 7 working days if sent by 2pm. Online payments are treated as priority payments

Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) Credit Transfer

If you’re sending a payment to an EU country and you know the recipient’s International Bank Account Number (IBAN) and SWIFTC Bank Identifier Code (BIC), you can benefit from reduced fees and faster delivery. For example, funds are guaranteed to be in the recipient’s account the next working day if they’re sent by 3pm.

What you need to make an international payment

You’ll need to know the following information about the person or company receiving the money.

  • Payee’s account name
  • The payee’s IBAN or account number
  • The SWIFTBIC for the payee’s bank, and/or domestic routing codes where applicable, or the payee’s bank address

Extra information for some countries

Some countries require additional information to process payments. To check the specific requirements for the country you’re sending money to, visit our international payments page and see our ‘Country & currency list’.

Receiving an international payment

We recommend that you have overseas money paid into your account by electronic transfer. We can pay international drafts and cheques into your account, but this is more expensive and can take longer for funds to clear. Because cheques aren’t cleared funds, they can be returned unpaid.

How to receive an international payment

With an electronic transfer, funds will be credited automatically to your account and converted to your account’s currency at that day’s exchange rate. You may also receive currency payments direct to your Barclays currency account.

Information your payee will need

  • Our bank name in full – Barclays Bank UK PLC
  • Our SWIFTBIC Bank Identifier Code (BIC) – BUKBGB22
  • Your account name
  • Your International Bank Account Number (IBAN) – you can find this on your statement or just use the IBAN generator below

How much does it cost?

There’s no charge for euro payments from EU/EEA countries as long as a valid IBAN and SWIFTBIC are provided. If the payment is in a different currency, or is received from a country outside of the EU/EEA, there’ll be a £6 charge.
