Energy and environment

Supporting renewable energy production

Whether you’re already using some of your available space to produce renewable energy, or are thinking of diversifying, see how we can help.

Traditional farming has branched out to take advantage of generating renewable energy through land previously used for crops and livestock.

Not only is it low-carbon, agricultural businesses producing their own energy drive down costs and can offset their own energy use or increase profit, by selling surplus energy back to the grid. This makes renewable energy an attractive proposition – all that’s needed is a little investment and, of course, the land to operate it from.

So if you’re thinking of diversifying, see if we could help. We have a range of financing options that could see your business grow. You’ll also have access to our support network, including scale-up specialists and experienced relationship directors.

Our vision

With a dedicated team of Energy Relationship Directors, our understanding of energy is sector-leading – from generating energy by harnessing the environment for wind, solar, ground source heat pump, wood chip burners or anaerobic digestion, through to storing that energy. If your farm is suitable to generate sustainable energy for home or business use, for export to the grid, or if you want to store it for future use, we can help.

Green bank

Through our Green Bank initiative, we’ve developed the Barclays Green Loan – a term-lending product where the proceeds of financing are used for eligible green projects. Qualifying environmental themes and activities, defined in the Green Product Framework, include: renewable energy, green transport, and green activities connected to policies, regulations and training.
