Delaying the repayment of your mortgage balance

How is Barclays supporting interest-only and part-and-part mortgage customers during the coronavirus situation? 

We’re offering a number of ways to support you if your circumstances have changed because of coronavirus.

This includes the option to delay the repayment of your outstanding capital balance on your interest-only or part-and-part mortgages, as well as overdrafts on mortgage current accounts, until 31 October 2021.  

Am I eligible to delay the repayment of my outstanding balance?

You can apply if

  • Your mortgage matures between 20 March 2020 and 31 October 2021
  • You’re up to date or can bring yourself up to date with your mortgage payments
  • You can continue to make your monthly interest payments until you’ve repaid the full outstanding balance expected on 31 October 2021

How does delaying the repayment of my balance affect my mortgage?

If you delay the repayment, you’ll end up paying more overall for your mortgage or mortgage current account overdraft than if you pay the outstanding balance when it’s currently due. Delaying could also be riskier for you – for example, if property prices go down or property becomes harder to sell in the future.

If you can afford to, it’s in your best interests to repay the balance when it’s due, but we understand that this might not be possible. 

How does it work if I have a part-and-part mortgage?

If you have a part-and-part mortgage, you can delay the repayment of the capital of the interest-only part of the mortgage, provided you meet the eligibility criteria mentioned above.

Can I take up this option if I’ve received other coronavirus mortgage support?

Yes. And if you take up this option and find you need more help making your mortgage payments, you can still apply for additional temporary support.
