Apple Pay

Make payments on the go

Apple Pay lets you use your Apple device1 to pay with your Barclays debit card or Barclaycard wherever you see the Apple Pay or contactless logo.

  • It’s quick, convenient and free to use
  • Secure with Touch ID and Face ID
  • Use wherever you see the Apple Pay or Contactless logo, including in apps

A secure way to pay

Apple Pay is safe and secure to use. Your card details won’t be stored on your Apple device or sent to merchants, so your information stays private and secure.

Plus, payments need to be authorised with Touch ID or Face ID when paying in store or in-app.

In-store payments

Hundreds of thousands of stores now accept Apple Pay, as well as Transport for London. You can use Apple Pay anywhere that accepts contactless payments. And you can now make payments for any amount with Apple Pay, though some retailers have a £30 limit.

In-app purchases

Many apps now accept Apple Pay, so you don’t have to enter your card details to make in-app purchases. Simply select Apple Pay at the checkout and use Touch ID or Face ID to complete your payment.

You can use Apple Pay with your Personal, Premier or Wealth debit card. You can also use Apple Pay with your eligible Barclaycard Visa.

Accounts that aren’t eligible include: Business, Corporate and Basic Current Accounts and accounts with ATM-only cards.

Terms and conditions apply. You need to have a current account with us, and a mobile phone number, to use the Barclays app.

  • It’s easy to get set up and use Apple Pay with your debit card or Barclaycard.

Just make sure your iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch is running the most up-to-date iOS by checking ‘Software update’ – you’ll find this under ‘General’ in ‘Settings’.

If you have the Barclays app

    1. Select ‘Cards’ from the app ‘Home’ screen
    2. Tap ‘Apple Pay’

To pay, hold your iPhone near the contactless reader with Touch ID or Face ID activated. You’ll be able to make in-app purchases with Touch ID or Face ID too.

    Apple Watch

Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone and select ‘Wallet & Apple Pay’. Then select ‘Add credit or debit card’.

To pay, hold your watch up to the contactless reader and double click the side button. A gentle tap and beep let you know that you’ve paid.

    iPad with Touch ID

On your iPad, start by opening ‘Settings’, select ‘Wallet & Apple Pay’, then ‘Add credit or debit card’. This will allow you to use Apple Pay on your iPad to make in-app purchases.

  • You can see a record of every payment you’ve made using Apple Pay by checking your account history in the Barclays app or in Online Banking.

You can also see your last 10 Apple Pay payments, including merchant details, under ‘Transaction history’ in the Wallet app.

  • Payments are charged to the default card in your Wallet app automatically when you use one-touch payment.

It’s easy to change your default card. Simply open the Wallet app and drag the card you want to be the default to the front of the Wallet.

When travelling on Transport for London, you can pay with an Express Transit card. This allows you to tap your iPhone or Apple Watch on the yellow card reader without having to use Touch ID or Face ID.

To set up an Express Transit card, open ‘Settings’ on your iPhone. Tap ‘Wallet & Apple Pay’, then select ‘Express Travel Card’ and choose your Barclays debit card or Barclaycard.

Remember to always use the same device to tap in and out of your journey, otherwise you could be charged the maximum fare.

For more information on using Apple Pay on TfL services, visit TfL or Apple.

  • You can also choose which card to use when you’re about to pay – just open the Wallet app first and select the card you want to use.

On your Apple Watch, double click the side button, swipe left or right to select a card and present the watch to the contactless reader.

For in-app purchases, select the Apple Pay logo, then 'Cards and billing’ to choose a card.
