Pay quickly in shops

You can pay with Contactless Mobile in any of the 400,000 locations across the UK that accept contactless payments – plus locations outside the UK that accept contactless Visa payments. To make a payment, simply hold your mobile over the reader – it’ll work within a matter of seconds.

Spend over £45

You can use Contactless Mobile to make payments from £45 to £300 if the retailer accepts contactless payments in this range. When you make these payments, you’ll need to hold your mobile over the reader, enter your normal card PIN on your phone and then hold your device over the reader again.

Travel in London

Now your phone can be your ticket too – just touch it on the reader (where an Oyster card usually goes). If you want to see more about your journeys, you can register your details online with TfL. The information you’ll need to register can be found under ‘Contactless Mobile’, then ‘Account Details’ in your Barclays app.

Contactless Mobile terms and conditions 50 KB2

  • To set up and start using Contactless Mobile, you’ll need the latest version of the Barclays app installed on your phone. If you have an eligible card and compatible device, Contactless Mobile will appear automatically in the ‘Manage Payments’ screen.

    1. Log in to the app and select ‘Pay & Transfer’, then ‘Manage payments’
    2. Select ‘Contactless Mobile payments’
    3. Select the card you want to use when you pay with your phone
    4. Ensure NFC is enabled on your phone
    5. Set your app as your default ‘Tap and Pay’ application

Once you’re set up, a permanent notification will show on your lock screen. This serves as a reminder that Contactless Mobile is enabled. You can hide lock screen notifications if you want to.

If you already use the Barclaycard app but would like to make Contactless Mobile payments with your debit card too, you can do that in the Barclays app. There, you have the option of switching between your debit card and Barclaycard.

When you set this up, you’ll be asked to set Contactless Mobile in your app as your default ‘Tap & Pay’ option on your phone. If you want to move back to the Barclaycard app, you’ll need to change this back too.

  • To use Contactless Mobile, you’ll need

    • An Android device with NFC and Android 5.0 or above – check this in your phone settings under ‘About device’
    • The latest version of the Barclays app
    • An eligible Barclays debit card or Visa Barclaycard3
  • We'll help protect your account in a number of ways when you use Contactless Mobile.

    Logging in

Occasionally, we’ll send you a notification asking you to log in to your Barclays app. This is to verify that it’s you who is using the service.

    Separate account number

We’ll set up a separate 16-digit account number for transactions made using Contactless Mobile – this is to help you keep track of payments. It’s different to the 16-digit number on your physical card, but is linked to the same account.

    Customisable PIN settings

If you’d like to use your PIN when you pay for something up to £45, go to ‘PIN Settings’ in the Contactless Mobile section of your app (this excludes TfL). When this is enabled, enter your normal card PIN on your phone, just as you would when you pay with your card. For payments between £45 – £300, you’ll need to use your PIN every time you pay with your phone.

If you’d like to make changes to any of your Contactless Mobile settings, just go to ‘Contactless Mobile’ in the app.
