What’s a credit limit?
A credit limit is the amount that you’re approved to borrow.
Your available credit is your credit limit minus any outstanding balance on your card. Your maximum credit limit depends on a few things, such as how long you've been a customer and what your history with credit cards has been like.
Your credit limit is shown on the letter you get with your Barclaycard, on your statement and in your app. You can sign up to text message or email alerts that tell you your balance and available credit. Your credit limit might be increased, but that depends on how you manage your account.
You can reduce your credit limit, or talk about increasing it, at any time. To do that, call us on 0800 151 0900* from a landline, 0333 200 9090* from a mobile or +44 1604 230 230* from abroad. Lines are open 24 hours a day, and call charges may apply. You can also request a change to your credit limit by going to barclaycard.co.uk and selecting ‘Change credit limit’.
