How do I cancel a Direct Debit?

You can cancel a Direct Debit in Online Banking, in Barclays Mobile Banking,1 in Telephone Banking or in one of our branches. You’ll need to let us know before 5.30pm at least one working day before the payment is due to leave your account. For example, if you want to cancel a payment that's due to be made on Wednesday, you’ll need to cancel it by 5.30pm on Monday.

Remember to notify the company you’re paying, so they don’t try to take the payment from your account.

 

  • Online Banking

    Once you’ve logged in to Online Banking, go to the top menu and select ‘Pay and transfer’. Then you’ll find ‘Transfers, standing orders and Direct Debits’ under ‘Manage and track’. You can then view and cancel any Direct Debits you’ve set up.

  • Mobile banking

    Log in to your app and select ‘Pay & Transfer’ from the menu at the bottom of the screen, followed by ‘Manage your payments’. Now tap ‘Manage Direct Debits’ and choose the account your payment comes from. You’ll see a list of Direct Debits for this account – select the one you want to cancel and the app will tell you what to do next.

  • By phone

    You can cancel a Direct Debit by calling Telephone Banking, if you’re registered.

  • Branch

    Visit a branch and speak to a member of the team about cancelling your Direct Debit – they’ll be happy to help. You can also do this using a self-service kiosk if there’s one in the branch you go to.
